Mathnasium Instructor Job Description

OVERVIEW

The Mathnasium Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality mathematical instruction to students using the Mathnasium Method. The Instructor is committed to providing exceptional customer service through an expert approach that is personal and prescriptive, attending to each individual student’s needs. The Instructor builds students’ confidence and self-esteem through successful encounters and interactions with carefully selected materials. Instructors are responsible for creating, executing, and updating Learning Plans, planning and administering assessments, maintaining student binders, monitoring progress during each session, and ensuring a positive, engaging, and productive learning environment. The Instructor works as part of a team and operates in a team-teaching environment where collaboration and communication ensure all student needs are addressed. The Mathnasium Instructor is the backbone of Mathnasium’s customer service by delivering exceptional math instruction for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Responsibilities

· Teach using Mathnasium methodology, terminology, instructional icons, and prescribed teaching practices.
· Deliver instruction strictly aligned with each student’s current Learning Plan.
· Actively engage, motivate, and encourage students during instructional sessions.
· Monitor student progress throughout the Mathnasium Hour and ensure students are progressing through assigned work.
· Evaluate, correct, and provide clear, constructive feedback on student work using positive reinforcement techniques.
· Identify when students are struggling, disengaged, or ready to advance and respond appropriately.
· Assist students with homework when applicable and reinforce key mathematical concepts.
· Use manipulatives (objects) and multiple instructional approaches to support student understanding.
· Maintain student focus, redirect attention when needed, and manage classroom behavior to support learning.
· Support reflective learning by verbally checking in with students during and at the end of sessions.
· Plan, administer, and correct student assessments in alignment with Mathnasium standards.
· Conduct Pre-Assessments, Progress Checks, Post-Assessments, and any other assessments required by the program.
· Accurately evaluate assessment results to inform instructional approach and student placement.
· Ensure assessment outcomes are reflected in daily instruction and student materials.
Learning Plans (LPs)

· Create, execute, and update student Learning Plans as part of instructional responsibilities, following center guidelines and leadership direction.
· Use assessment results to inform Learning Plan structure, progression, and instructional focus.
· Ensure Learning Plans reflect each student’s current mastery level and progress.
· Flag gaps, concerns, or readiness for advancement to Center Directors, Assistant Center Directors, or Lead Instructors.
· Maintain Learning Plans that are accurate, current, and aligned with student performance.
Student Binders

· Create, review, and update student binders in alignment with Learning Plans.
· Assign appropriate lesson materials during student sessions.
· Ensure correct lesson sequencing, completeness, and organization of binders.
· Maintain binder accuracy and quality as an ongoing instructional responsibility.
· Clearly document progress, notes, completed work, and assessments in student binders.
· File, document, and organize completed assessments within student binders as required.
Student Experience & Floor Responsibilities

· Properly check in students at the beginning of sessions and ensure appropriate work is assigned.
· Monitor student pacing and time management during sessions.
· Support end-of-session check-out by ensuring work is completed and progress is acknowledged.
· Facilitate reflective learning by reviewing session goals and outcomes with students.
· Identify and escalate academic or behavioral concerns to center leadership when needed.
· Support assessment sessions by ensuring students are prepared, focused, and working appropriately.
· Assist in assessments and progress evaluations as directed.
· Participate in parent meetings/conferences/conversations to explain current student progress.
· Escort students to parents at the end of sessions when appropriate.
Team Collaboration & Professional Conduct

· Work collaboratively in a team-teaching environment to ensure all students receive appropriate attention.
· Communicate student needs clearly, professionally, and promptly to center leadership and team members.
· Actively listen to team members, ask questions when needed, and contribute positively to the instructional team.
· Maintain professionalism with students, parents, and colleagues at all times.
· Be reliable, responsible, and dependable in fulfilling assigned duties.
· Act honestly and ethically in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
Administrative & Operational Support

· Assist with non-teaching tasks as assigned, including curriculum preparation, light administrative support, and center upkeep.
· Use computers, laptops, and tablets for instructional, documentation, and assessment purposes.
· Communicate effectively via email, phone, and in person.
· Help maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready center environment.
· Assist with center cleanliness including tables, chairs, instructional areas, and shared spaces as directed.

REQUIREMENTS

Work Schedule

· The expected work schedule during the school year is Monday to Thursday 11:00am–7:00pm, Friday 11:00am–6:00pm, and Sunday 10:00am–5:00pm.
· During official UAE MOE winter, spring, and summer school holidays, the expected schedule is Monday to Friday 10:00am–5:00pm.
· This schedule does not include commuting time.
· Deviations require prior notice and supervisor approval.
· The work schedule may be modified occasionally to accommodate business needs, events, meetings, or training.
Training

· Complete required Mathnasium training within designated timelines.
· Learn and execute instructional updates and process changes.
· Participate in ongoing training and development sessions to continuously improve instructional quality.
Qualifications & Characteristics

· Strong math skills through Algebra I (Algebra II, Trigonometry, and higher math for instructors working with advanced students).
· Passion for teaching math and willingness to learn and apply the Mathnasium Method.
· Ability to manage multiple students and instructional tasks simultaneously.
· Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
· Friendly, professional demeanor with students, parents, and team members.
· Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
Supervision

· The Instructor position is supervised by and reports to the Center Director.
