Senior Registered Nurse Required in Dubai
King's College London Hospital Dubai is currently looking for a Senior Registered Nurse for our organization at King's College Hospital Dubai in Dubai Hills. The role's main objective is to provide leadership to clinical and direct care staff within KCH to ensure safe and high standards of patient care.
Key Accountabilities:
Clinical Practice
To demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of any patient receiving treatment at KCH.
To adhere to the DHA and NMC UK Code of Conduct.
To manage the nursing team and ensure adequate staffing is available on a day to day operations
To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about patients’ condition, instigate appropriate remedial action and promptly report changes.
To act as a resource person to junior staff members, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives.
To ensure that accurate records are maintained reflecting both changes in the patient’s condition and the treatment delivered.
To ensure that patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate information and ensure that this is presented in a sensitive way and one that they understand.
To ensure that practice is evidence based and develop policies and protocols as required within the clinical area.
To support the process of continuous quality improvement, leading on clinical audits, etc. to formally evaluate standards of care and assist in the implementation of changes in the light of such findings.
To organise patient transfers in collaboration with the reception staff, to both within and outside KCH escorting ill patients as requested.
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times
To ensure that relevant information regarding the patients’ needs / condition are communicated to the MDT and that any instructions are acted upon.
To report and investigate adverse incidents which occur in the department as per policy.
Ensure clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times, including patient handovers
Education and Research
To be aware of current research and the possible implications for KCH.
To act as a mentor to junior staff members, responsible for the orientation, supervision and ongoing development of junior members supported by Line Managers.
To act as practice supervisor / assessor, responsible for completing competency documents for junior staff within agreed timeframes.
To act as a mentor staff undertaking further education as requested, ensuring a positive learning experience and facilitating the development of their clinical skills.
To participate in any research projects conducted in the clinical area as appropriate.
To act as “link nurse “(i.e. for infection control, tissue viability) ensuring attendance at and contribution to KCH wide meetings and responsible for ensuring dissemination of relevant information from these to all staff within the Unit.
Lead on KCH initiatives to develop nursing practice and support change.
Management
To manage the clinical workload effectively, ensuring care is prioritised appropriately.
To contribute positively towards the delivery of a cost-effective service, adjusting staffing levels to meet demand and assisting the clinical coordinators to keep within agreed resources.
To assist with the ongoing organisation of the unit, including responsibility for a designated area of practice within department on a daily basis to ensure timely attendance and discharge of patients.
To act as a team leader to an identified group of staff, monitoring and documenting the development of their clinical skills.
To develop own skills in recruitment and retention
To actively support the process of risk management and health & safety – upholding relevant policies to promote this and ensuring incidents are reported appropriately (in writing) and helping identify ways of preventing errors and accidents to both patients and staff.
To make a positive contribution to service development affecting the clinical area and positively influence other to adapt to change.
To actively promote customer care, assisting in resolving local (informal) complaints and supporting the lead nurses to investigate formal problems.
To oversee the monitoring of stock levels of clinical stores and technical equipment, resolving any shortfall as appropriate and approving stock orders via Oracle.
To monitor standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the clinical area, oversee audit process and develop action plans to address deficits.
Resolving local problems/conflicts, keeping managers/others informed and maintaining positive team dynamics across KCH at all times.
To take a leadership role in crisis situations, resolving problems as necessary.
To maintain confidentiality with regard to personal information pertaining to staff.
To attend and contribute to departmental meetings as required.
To keep the CSM informed of significant changes in the day to day situation in the department
To act as a liaison within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimum, timely patient care.
To uphold a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within KCH, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post.
To monitor staff training ensuring adequate opportunities for CNE for all staff and to design and implement new training programs and updates within the department in conjunction with the People Practices department.
To manage poor performance in conjunction with the People Practices department, including implementation of performance improvement plans and disciplinary policies where required.
To ensure staff completes their probation and performance evaluation timely.
To evaluate timely ER staff’s Probation and Performance evaluation on time.
Personal professional development
To work within and accept responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of clinical competence and ensure clinical competency as new technologies are introduced.
To keep up to date with DHA, Specialty, KCH Healthcare LLC policies and guidelines and to adhere to these at all times.
To be a fully active and committed member of the multidisciplinary team operating at KCH
To demonstrate an insight into own professional development, contributing to the process of identifying own educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with the clinical lead nurse.
Participate in own Individual Performance Review and after suitable training, to be responsible for undertaking timely reviews for own team of junior staff.
To ensure own educational commitment is at least sufficient to maintain professional body’s requirements and to ensure own mandatory training certificates are current, in liaison with the CSM.
To take responsibility for own professional development and to develop agreed action plan with line manager.
Required skills
Bachelor’s in Nursing or equivalent qualification is required.
DHA Registered Nurse
Has worked within an appropriate service environment within the last 2 years.
Experience of managing a team of nurses.
Communication skills – able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions. Adapts communication style as necessary and is able to work with and through others
Problem solving skills – able to respond to unexpected issues and provide first line response and to identify appropriate sources of secondary support.
