Mercor is seeking experienced Python Developers to collaborate with a leading AI research laboratory on advancing infrastructure for next-generation machine learning systems. This is a fully remote, flexible engagement for engineers with a strong background in open-source contributions and practical software development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze, debug, and resolve issues from major open-source repositories.
• Develop, test, and validate code addressing bugs, architectural challenges, or system inefficiencies.
• Implement and optimize APIs, database schemas, and backend components for AI workflows.
• Configure local and containerized environments to reproduce complex software behaviors.
• Collaborate asynchronously with AI research teams to provide technical insights and validated improvements.
Ideal Qualifications:
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in technically demanding environments.
• Verified contributions to major open-source repositories (e.g., astropy, django, matplotlib, pytest, scikit-learn, sphinx, sympy).
• Advanced Python skills, API development expertise, and structured testing knowledge.
• Proficiency with debugging, Git/GitHub, and CI/CD workflows.
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and persistence in solving complex multi-layered problems.
• Residency in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

• Work Type: Fully remote and asynchronous, manage your own schedule.
