JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for providing general and specialized direct and indirect patient care through the application of evidence based nursing procedures and practices to adult patients on assigned nursing unit. Also responsible for demonstrating competency in the behavioral, growth, development and psychosocial needs of patients being treated.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PATIENT CARE
· Performs stoma marking, ostomy care, skin/wound care and fistula care based on patient needs and levels of wellness
· Utilizes a variety of resources to resolve problems confronted in relation to various circumstances, including new technology, research protocols, changing patient population and new pharmacology specific to ostomy, skin/wound and fistula care
· Uses data to develop and implement interventions as appropriate to meet patient care needs and facilitate the discharge process
· Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team to coordinate ongoing patient care
· Assesses and triages patients appropriately
· Monitors and documents patient’s condition and the effectiveness of care and/or interventions
· Evaluates, updates and revises the plan of care for patients to facilitate the achievement of planned and expected outcomes
· Assesses educational needs of the patient
· Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and family, which may include diagnosis, safe and proper use of equipment, self-care or nutritional needs
· Initiates and collaborates in performing clinical research
· Identifies and manages psychosocial patient needs
· Serves as a resource to acute care and clinic nurses in care of patients with ostomy and skin/wound care needs
· Participates in multiple aspects of discharge planning including home going supplies, patient education and assessment of patient and family ability to perform ostomy or skin/wound care independently
· Provides pre-operative teaching and support to the patient and family
· Completes timely patient admission and ongoing assessments, plans and updates plan of care based on individual patient needs
· Provides direct care and evaluates outcomes, incorporating principles of family centered care
· Monitors and documents patients’ condition and effectiveness of care and interventions
· Assesses educational needs of patients and significant others considering cultural needs and other special concerns
· Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant as appropriate
· Validates and documents patient and family understand of teaching
· Administers prescribed medications in accordance with approved policies and protocols, utilizing barcode scanning
· Carries out prescribed treatments in accordance with approved policies, protocols and educational material procedures
CLINICAL / PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE
· Use the knowledge of one’s own role and the roles of other professions to appropriately assess and address the health care needs of the patients and populations served
· Demonstrates commitment to providing evidence based practice care by: adhering to protocols for the care of patient populations in which assigned, reporting needed changes in practice supported by evidence, and participating in evaluating patient outcomes utilizing evidence
· Delegates appropriate components of the nursing care plan to other members of the nursing team
· Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and family information by promoting professional interdisciplinary communication
· Respects Patient Rights and demonstrates behaviors of a Patients’ First Philosophy
· Incorporates the CCAD Professional Practice model and patient safety principles into clinical practice
· Responsible for completing charge capture education and in-service training for their Institute within CCAD. When charges are not captured automatically the nurse will complete within Epic in real time, Perioperative Services within 24 business hours

· Communicates patient clinical information clearly and accurately, documenting pertinent information in medical record and ensuring complete documentation of patient care

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification (minimum three (3) year curriculum) in Nursing from an accredited program is required
Experience
· Minimum of two (2) years post-graduate experience in an acute care setting is required. Wound care experience preferred.
· Note: experience requirement is waived for graduates of UAE Nursing colleges or universities after completion of an approved internship*
Certification and Licensure
· Valid and current national license is required
· BLS is required
· Internationally recognized certificate in Wound, Ostomy, Continence care; or obtain within 1 year of employment.
Job Specific Skills and Abilities
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Ability to speak and write in English is required
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
· Ability to speak and write in Arabic is preferred
· Experience with an electronic medical record is strongly preferred
