The HSO serves as a resource for ensuring safe practices in the laboratory as well as serves as a role model for safety. This includes adhering to all PPE and other safety requirements.

Responsibilities

Oversees the safety activities of the laboratory
Coordinates annual safety audit
Oversees annual chemical inventory and obtains material safety data sheets (MSDS) as needed
Maintains current and archived MSDSs
Documents all safety-related activities
Coordinates annual safety training
Serves as chemical and microbiology hygiene officer
Interacts with a variety of regulatory agencies and professionals
Support developing, implementing and monitoring G42 Health, Safety and Environmental Policy, Programs and Procedures.
Assist the G42 WWML to comply with current health and safety legislation and regulations to ensure that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect employees, contractors, and visitors' safety and health.
Assist in the implementation of HSE training and awareness programs.
Increase health and safety awareness at all level within the lab
Assist the lab to investigate and report all injury, accident, and near-miss occurring to the employee, contractor, and/or visitors to appropriate senior official
Assist in the investigation of all accidents/incidents resulting in minor or substantial damage to G42 assets and property.
Ensure a safe working environment for all employees by Conducting as necessary the safety inspection and audits of the lab.
Investigate and report on complaints of unsafe working act and condition to the senior official.
Respond to employees and contractor’s safety concerns.
Coordinate and participate in the G42 HSE committee meetings.
Coordinate and participate in environmental (Air, water and land) protection programs in the G42 entities.
Arrange and deliver safety and emergency training to employees.
Coordinate and participate in emergency drills.
Align and comply with Organization information security, privacy, HSE, policy and procedures.
Assist in the writing and yearly maintenance of specific standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Maintain records of the lab regarding safety training, area specific training procedures and safety equipment (for instance, eyewash) testing.
Ensure the maintenance of group safety equipment such as spill control kits, first aid kits, and eyewash facilities.
Ensure that the Monthly Quick Checks are being done in each laboratory section.
Mentor the safety representative for each section.

Candidate Requirements

NEBOSH certified
Occupational Safety and Health Abu Dhabi Practitioner certification will be an advantage
Fire and Safety Engineering
IOSH Managing Safety
OSHAD Internal Auditor
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
Risk Assessment and Incident Investigation and Reporting
Integrated Management System for ISO-9001, ISO45001 and 14001 Training
5 years experience in Health and Safety Management
Knowledge of

Proper steps for reporting incidents.
Emergency procedure information (what to do, where to go, etc.).
Safety tools (safety showers, eye washes, first aid, fire extinguishers, etc), their use and maintenance.
First Aid
Different type of fire extinguishers and their specific use
Hazardous waste requirements and disposal
