Strategy, Planning and Management

Act as strategic business partner to senior executive leadership team.

Provide leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.

Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.

Perform risk management by analyzing the organization’s liabilities and investments

Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.

Identify, acquire and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information.

Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion.

Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions.

Design and implement policies, procedures and processes as deemed appropriate by senior leadership team.

Financial Management

Manage cash flow planning process and ensure funds availability.

Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks.

Maintain outstanding banking relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and business partners.

Utilize forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to provide financial insight into the organization’s plans and operating budgets.

Manage the trading operations such as establishing letter of credit, negotiating LC Terms and conditions, discounting LC, issuing bank guarantees, and submitting control returns on all the discounted LCs.

Analyze the exchange gain and loss account to ensure that transactions are properly recorded in the financial statements;

Manage all cash management functions including cash concentration, wires, account funding. Ensure adequate liquidity for working capital needs and invest short term excess cash. Manage inter-company cash, including inter-company lending, dividends, and capital injections.

Forecast worldwide interest expense and income.

Oversee cash management banking and financial institution relationships. Negotiate bank and service fees. Implement new bank technologies, products and services to improve cash cycle and simplify company operations.

Design and implementation of hedging strategies to mitigate financial risks, primarily foreign currency cash flow exposure through the recommendation of executing derivative financial instruments, managing interest rate risk and liquidity management

Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting

Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the Company

Ensure credibility of Finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.

Review and analyze Quarterly financial results and provide recommendations.

Identify, develop and execute analysis of business initiatives, product launches and/or new service offerings.

Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual company operating budget.

Manage financial planning and analysis department. Supervise creation of reports, software implementation and tools for budgeting and forecasting.

Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations

Supervise the accounting department to ensure the proper functioning of all systems, databases and financial software. Provide regular maintenance and backup of all accounting systems and supervise company financial staff.

Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, compliance and financial procedures.

Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data for company’s board of directors.

Oversee the preparation and communication of Quarterly and annual financial statements.

Review all Quarterly-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.

Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems

Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits.

Coordinate and strategize methods used to attain team goals with the Accounting Manager and Controllers in the operating entities.

15+ years total accounting or finance experience

5 to 10 years of experience in East or West Africa Region is a must

5 years of experience in a corporate environment, ideally at Financial Director or CFO level is a must

Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Finance , Business Administration or any related Field

Master’s Degree or a specialized certification is preferred

CPA, CMA, CA, CIMA, CFA or ACCA (at least one certification preferable).

Experience in a financial leadership roles in a large ($100 million+), corporation.

Previous experience in Retail, Trading, Manufacturing & Distribution is a must, Agriculture industry experience is a plus.

Strong understanding of statutory, legal, financial policies and regulations is required.

Hands-on experience with financial management software

Hands On” ERP Systems Experience – SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards or PeopleSoft experience preferred
